Here's How Much Snow Fell In Richfield Over The Weekend

RICHFIELD, MN — Friday's snowstorm pounded the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area with heavy snow. Many local totals exceeded the forecasted snowfall.

Richfield saw 12.8 inches of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service. Meanwhile across the metro, East St. Paul saw whopping 21 inches fall over the weekend.

Coon Rapids saw 5.5 inches.

A meteorological phenomenon called "frontogenesis" is to blame for some towns in the metro getting blanketed with nearly two feet of snow, while others saw less than 5 inches.

"Heavy snow was evident on radar due to frontogenesis, with intense upward motion through the snow growth layer of the atmosphere," the National Weather Service said.

"This intense banding of heavy snow was part of the reason why the gradient of snowfall across the area was so extreme."

• Prior Lake: 19 inches

• Lakeville: 19.0 inches

Hennepin County

• Bloomington: 18.5 inches

Carver County

• Carver City: 12.8 inches

Anoka County

• Coon Rapids: 5.5 inches

Wright County

• Montrose: 3.6 inches

MN Weather: Wednesday Will See Highs In The 50s

Following Friday's snowstorm, temperatures will spike this week. The high for Wednesday in the Twin Cities metro area is 51 degrees.
