June 13, 2023: Sad or Glad?

Donald Trump, please stop trying to elicit tears and sympathy from us now that your comeuppance for your latest crime is drawing near.

When will Republicans and misguided Trumpers and The Media stop showing consideration and respect to such an inconsiderate, disrespectful, crooked sociopath?

If 6/13/2023 was any indication, the answer is NEVER. To his fan base, Donald J. Trump remains heroic in his obvious deceptions.

Only in America could a wealthy, iconoclastic, sexist, racist “businessman” who never held any political office of any kind get to be President of The United States because too many voters loved his mythic propaganda and bought into his B.S. about being a noble lawbreaker.

Wake up, you silly voters. There’s nothing noble or heroic about proudly and knowingly breaking the laws in our democracy. I call these voters silly because they willingly allowed themselves to get duped by a con man, then refused to admit they got conned. I feel your pain, O stubborn, clueless ones, but it’s time to get real. Move on by admitting you made a mistake, not by excusing his childish, destructive behaviors again and again. Then stop making excuses for him.

Stop feeling sorry for him. And please, please stop feeling sad about the mess he’s gotten himself into.

Be glad, misguided Trumpers, because our democracy still works! In other countries, a lawbreaking character in high office like Trump would be executed for treason; or else, he would mysteriously disappear, never to be seen or heard from again. Because he’s an American citizen, however, Trump still has the right to a trial by jury. More importantly, he is also presumed innocent until proven guilty.

And for this boastful lawbreaker that, in itself, is a miracle. Never has any U.S. President screwed up so badly by breaking so many laws and proudly boasting what he got away with, then been arraigned with such respectful consideration and genuine reverence.

On June 13, 2023(FYI, the day before his 77th birthday), Trump surrendered to federal authorities and pleaded not guilty in Miami’s Federal District Court. No handcuffs. No ID photo taken. No bail even mentioned. No jail time even considered before the trial. Not bad for a guy who kept and mishandled so many sensitive, classified, and top secret documents.

Trump(accompanied by his personal aide/valet Waltine Nauta, who is also in legal trouble) faced a 38 count indictment. This time, however, the charges weren’t about rape, sexual assault, inciting a riot at the Capitol on January 6th, or trying to undermine a Presidential election. No, this time the charges involved mishandling documents related to national security, then obstructing the investigation about them. Besides not cooperating with investigators, he also repeatedly lied about what he was doing with them. As in:
No, these documents weren’t classified; yes, they were; no, I don’t think they were; and, hey, I can declassify them with my mind, just by thinking about it because I have executive privilege. I can do that. It’s declassified if I say it’s declassified.

You don’t have to get straight A’s in Civics Class to know something’s terribly, terribly wrong with this guy. And yet, the MAGA zeitgeist in the country has been overusing the adjective “sad” ad nauseam for the past 48+ hours. Boo hoo!(Sigh) How sad:
It’s such a sad, sad day. How sad that a former President of The United States has to go through this. How sad that Trump is facing all these charges and will have to go through a trial…

No, what’s really sad is the way Donald Trump disgraced the office of The President by his inappropriate and illegal conduct — then kept getting away with it for so long. Now that we still have a democracy that is still functioning, we should all be glad — not sad — about what’s finally happening to this former President. At last, he’s getting his comeuppance.

And yet, the sadness still lingers.

It’s almost as though Trump’s political party and The Media covering his downfall are afraid of insulting him! As though they don’t want to come across as anti-Trumpers. As though they don’t want to anger Trump’s virulent fan base. Well, maybe it’s high time to fight this absurd virulence with facts. Maybe his base and GOP sycophants need some no-nonsense reporting and evaluation and truth so they can finally snap out their puzzling idolatry of this obnoxious loser.

What his base really needs for their propaganda release is an intervention with some serious tough love to go along with their coffee. They need professional help in order to realize that their beloved champion had been lying to them all along. They need to understand that he’d been engaging in criminal activities for most of his life and never was what he was pretending to be.

Unfortunately, as long as Trump receives the continued support of the Republican Party these truths about him will never be believed.

Already, GOP enablers Mike Pence and Nikki Haley have been asked about the possibility of a pardon for Trump — and his trial hasn’t even started yet! The jury selection hasn’t taken place. The verdict in his case has yet to be decided. But there’s already discussion about effectively erasing a possible guilty verdict with a pardon?

Don’t ever tell me there’s no such thing as white privilege in our justice system — especially when the white guy has money.

Despite mountains of damaging evidence that clearly shows Trumps’s guilt, his legal process remains intact. He might keep crying “Witch Hunt!” and the system “is rigged,” but nobody’s interfering with his due process. Nobody’s stopping him from campaigning for another Presidential term, either. All things considered, The Donald has nothing to feel sad about at all.

But like the true sociopathic drama queen that he is, this player now wants our sympathy.

Once again, we’re being played by the master of all fascist demagogues. Now that his hand is finally caught in the proverbial cookie jar, out comes his victim card. He wants us to feel sorry for him.

Let’s not do that.

Let’s stop feeling sad about his fate because he has no one to blame but himself. Remember, he NEVER would have been charged with any crimes in the first place if he’d simply returned the documents. According to The Washington Post, he could have easily avoided all charges if he’d simply agreed to give back what he’d unlawfully taken. He refused.

If America wants to feel sad, then let’s start getting depressed about the cushy “punishment” he’ll be offered if the jury does find him guilty. Initially, Trump turned down a generous plea deal that only required him to return all these documents. If he is found guilty in a court of law, I very much doubt he’ll set foot in any jail, anyway. I think the court with that overly sympathetic judge he appointed will give him a choice. That is, he could either accept 10-20 years behind bars in the big house or agree to a highly restricted house arrest. So he’ll probably opt to spend his final days at Mar-a-Lago as long as he refrains from launching any propaganda on social media and then swears he’ll never again run for any public office — no campaigning for city animal control OR the U.S. Presidency.

What Trump really deserves(and desperately needs) requires a padded cell with round-the-clock supervision. He’ll never agree to that deal, though. A sociopathic narcissist like Trump never thinks he’s the one with the problem…
