Lockdown Triggered At Chanhassen High School By 'Malfunction"

CHANHASSEN, MN — Officials say an "electrical malfunction" caused Chanhassen High School to go into lockdown Thursday morning. The lockdown was lifted after the Carver County Sheriff’s Department and other local agencies cleared the building.

"At no time were our students in danger, but I am proud of our entire community for the way they responded to make sure we stayed safe," Doug Bullinger, the principal of Chanhassen High School, said in a statement.

"This, understandably, can be a scary experience. We will continue our day here at Chanhassen, but we completely understand if students would like to go home for the day. Students will be asked to come down to the office, call parents and receive verbal confirmation of permission before they can leave."

The school will make counselors available Thursday and Friday for students who need extra support.
