Parents From Coon Rapids Killed In Mexico

The couple leaves behind a 21-year-old son in college and an 18-year-old daughter in high school who is also planning to attend college.

COON RAPIDS, MN — Two parents from Coon Rapids were killed in Mexico on April 7 while visiting family in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

Leticia Carrillo Arellano and Miguel Abrego Hurtado were shot and killed while traveling in a truck with Minnesota license plates on a coastal highway.

The Oaxaca Post reported that the attack happened in the afternoon "when a group of unknown individuals traveling on a motorcycle caught up with the truck in which the couple was traveling and shot them several times."

A GoFundMe page for the family states that "For reasons beyond our understanding, someone's senseless act ripped Miguel and Leticia away from this world. It is not enough to say we are shocked and hurt. We are utterly devastated."
