Why Trumpers Will Keep Voting for Trump

Trump is not guilty -- of anything and everything. Not because he's innocent but because his accusers have failed to prove his guilt.

Despite the airing of historical Congressional hearings that prove Trump was trying to illegally overturn the 2020 election and illegally promote sedition, a lot of Americans are still going to vote for him when he runs again. And he will run again in 2024. He will fight to reclaim his Presidency — the office he has repeatedly claimed(without any valid proof) had been “stolen” from him in 2020.

But why would any citizen continue to support and empower such a shameless white collar criminal? Why keep voting for this unapologetic fascist demagogue? Why?

Various experts keep attempting to answer that very question, and the theories keep coming. Several tomes have been written. Numerous political commentators have worn out their talking points on television. All kinds of mythic garble about Trump’s vision quest(with QAnon) to uncover government secrets have been circulating online for years.

And yet, when it comes to this issue, very few thinkers have been able to even see the big picture.

Their perspective, in fact, shows an alarming misunderstanding about what Americans think about this politician and why they vote for him. These experts can somewhat interpret opinion polls all right, but they still can’t figure out why Trump got — and will keep getting — elected to public office.

So allow me to explain why, dear readers, by revealing the mindset of the typical American who votes for Trump.

Completely missing in any discussion about Trumpers is their quasi-religious patriotism that encompasses truth, justice, and the American Way. They see their country with a kind of homespun, Pollyanna-ish religious fervor that isn’t what’s commonly defined as “religious.” They may not be regular church goers or die-hard holy rollers, but their belief in the way American government works seems quite Biblical — especially when it comes to Old Testament crime and punishment.

That is, they actually believe that if you engage in any serious wrongdoing, there will be serious repercussions. There will be punishments. If you lie, cheat, or steal, WATCH OUT! God will get you. Karma will come after you and bite hard and long. Bad, bad things will happen. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But someday you will have to pay for your crimes.

Really. That’s what they think.

They honestly believe that if someone has broken the law, that person will get arrested, tried, and convicted. Or else, the guilty party will get sued and lose in court because of his guilty, unclean hands.

But why do these same citizens who have bought into this Yankee Doodle Justice where evil will be punished and good will ultimately triumph also believe that Trump is a trustworthy man who deserves their continued votes and support? Their actions don’t align very well with their beliefs. Their thoughts, words, and deeds don’t make logical sense. There’s also an innate contradiction in their reasoning.

What sounds irrational and illogical to non-Trumpers, however, makes perfect sense to Trumpers. Their reasoning goes something like this: Instead of believing what Trump says and does can’t be true, Trumpers reason it must be true, because if it weren’t true, Trump would have gotten thrown in jail. Instead of recognizing that Trump’s actions are wrong, Trumpers reason if he really was THAT bad, he wouldn’t have been nominated, then elected, to the Presidency in the first place.

And never mind that if they hadn’t voted for him, he never would have become the 45th President of The United States, either.

It’s not that Trumpers are stupid. It’s that they’ve selected, then ascribed to, a particular reality that doesn’t make much logical sense — but continually gets reinforced by propaganda from the GOP machine and FOX NOOZ. Trump’s die-hard supporters believe in truth by default, not truth supported by evidence. They think their belief system is true, not because it’s been proven true but because if it weren’t true, then our God-given system of government would have immediately eliminated this false reality and punished Trump.

That’s how fake news becomes the news they don’t like, while “real news” becomes whatever fearless leader Trump says is “real.”

That’s why conversing with a Trumper is like meandering through a minefield of miscommunication, storybook logic, and stinkin’ thinkin’. You hear these fellow American citizens defending Trump, The Hero, in ways that only make sense in Trump World and nowhere else.

Let me ask you this. You keep criticizing Trump, but has he ever been sued?

Well, yeah. Not for this latest thing, but he has been sued for a lot of other things.

And what happened?

The complaint either got dismissed or thrown out of court. Or else, Trump paid a little fine and walked away.

So, no prison time, no real blemish on his record. He didn’t lose then, did he?

No, but he WAS impeached — twice. The only President in history to ever get impeached twice.

Was he convicted, though?

No, he was acquitted both times.

Uh-huh.

But these Congressional hearings do show he was trying to illegally overturn the election AND coerce his Vice President Mike Pence to not confirm Joe Biden as the legitimate winner of the election so he wouldn’t become the 46th President.

So what? He hasn’t been arrested or convicted of anything, has he?

No. But that’s because Congress doesn’t have the power to indite him. It’s up to the Department of Justice to do that.

Has Attorney General Merrick Garland done that?

No. Not yet.

He’s not going to do that, either. All these hearings did was give Trump so much negative publicity that it’s going to be impossible now for him to get a fair trial.

So he’s going to get away with even more illegal activities?

You say illegal, I say political witch-hunt.

Welcome to America: The land of convenient yet false syllogisms.

There it is. Trump isn’t guilty of anything because if he were guilty, he would have going to jail a long time ago. He would have been one of the bad guys who surely would have been punished. But he’s never really been punished; therefore, he’s never done anything illegal.

As long as Trump doesn’t get arrested and found guilty in a court of law and sent to prison, he’s innocent…And now, in 2024, POTUS 45 will probably get a second term.

No doubt Trump’s shameless self-promotion combined with propaganda from FOX NOOZ has helped him — and will continue to help him — reclaim the Presidency. But in order to effectively brainwash your constituency, you need some gray matter that is both trusting AND steadfast to work with in the first place. You need brains immersed in Trumper logic. And right now, there’s enough of them to put Trump back in The Oval Office.
