Here are the top three stories in Rochester-Mason City today:
- The Mayo Clinic plans to expand its Rochester campus, with work set to begin in 2024 and extending until 2030. The billion-dollar expansion will encompass a new set of clinic buildings on the west side of the current Gonda and Mayo buildings. Alternate plans to relocate the facility were rejected after it was learned that staffing committees with nurse input at Mayo were not required. (KWLM)
- Firefighters responded to a call at the Gates Apartments in Rochester, shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Monday. It was determined that the fire originated in a kitchen on the second floor. Although there were no injuries, the fire caused damage to cabinets and an oven totalling around $10,000. The Rochester Fire Department is reminding everyone to exert extra care when cooking as this activity is known to cause more structure fires than anything else. (ABC 6 News KAAL TV)
- The City of Rochester is seeking input from local mountain bikers and the community. The Rochester Active Sports Club is partnering with the city to develop and maintain a system of mountain bike trails. The city has published a Bike Trail Preferences Survey that local residents and mountain bikers can respond to in order to guide the development of this project. - Come on in and test the water at Song, Tea, & Poke, a new restaurant in Rochester serving dishes from Hawaiian cuisine. Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The restaurant is on the south side, in the mall by Walgreens, and is still waiting on a sign--so look closely when you go. (KROC-AM)
- Trot on over with your favorite pooch to the Pup Meet-Up. The event will be Thursday, Jun. 8, at the LTS Brewery. Admission is free. You can also meet dogs up for adoption at Camp Canine. (Rochester Local)
