See How MN Counties Voted In Trump Vs. Harris Race

Democrats Kamala Harris and Tim Walz captured the state of Minnesota but by a slimmer margin than Joe Biden did in 2020.

ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota was last won by Republicans in a presidential election in 1972 when Richard Nixon carried the state. Since then, Minnesota has voted for Democratic candidates in every presidential election, making it the state with the longest Democratic winning streak in the U.S.

Donald Trump came closer than any Republican before him to flipping the state red in 2016. Hillary Clinton won Minnesota in 2016 by less than 2 percent of the vote.

Joe Biden won Minnesota by a wider margin in 2020, securing 52.4 percent of the vote compared to Donald Trump’s 45.28 percent, for about a 7-point margin of victory.

In the 2024 election, Minnesota once again remained a blue state. However, Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz performed below Joe Biden’s 2020 results, despite Walz’s connection as the state’s sitting governor.

Harris/Walz won 50.88 percent to Trump/J.D. Vance's 46.66 percent, for about a 4-point margin of victory.
