Who Becomes MN Governor If Tim Walz Is Elected Vice President?
Kamala Harris chose Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Here's how that could change things in Minnesota.

ST. PAUL, MN β Vice President Kamala Harris chose Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota as her running mate Tuesday, adding a folksy, Midwestern governor with a liberal record to her presidential ticket.
But what does that mean for Minnesota?
Walz will remain governor through at least the presidential campaign. Presumably, he will rely even more on Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to attend to state business and events in his absence.

If the Harris-Walz campaign defeats Republican Donald Trump in November, Walz will have to pack his bags. He and his family will move from Minnesota's governor's mansion on Summit Avenue to the United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
With Walz sworn in as vice president, Flanagan would become Minnesota's next governor, following the rules in the state constitution.

Flanagan is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe. She would be the first female governor in Minnesota and the first Native American woman to serve as governor in the U.S.
Flanagan is already the countryβs highest-ranking Native woman elected to executive office.
