MINNEAPOLIS — KDWB listeners heard an emotional call Tuesday when Jesse Merkel, the father of Annunciation shooting victim Fletcher Merkel, phoned in to the station’s morning show with a request to honor his son.

"One of Fletcher’s favorite memories was when he was able to be on the radio with you," Merkel told hosts Falen Bonsett and Colt Parkey on 101.3 KDWB.

He asked if they could replay the segment and follow it with Fletcher’s favorite song, "Ordinary" by Alex Warren.

The clip dated back to July 3, when Fletcher’s mother, Mollie, called in for KDWB’s fireworks sound-alike contest.

"I have five kids in the car that are going to help me out," she told the hosts before a chorus of booms erupted from the backseats. One of those kids was Fletcher.

"I’m honored that you would call into us," Bonsett replied live on air. "This would be a moment that was special. So thank you for calling. We’re more than happy to do that."
