'Luna' Was Top Name For Minneapolis Cats, Dogs In 2022
The Minneapolis Animal Care and Control on Thursday released the top names for dog and cat licenses that were opened this year.
MINNEAPOLIS — The most popular name for pets licensed in Minneapolis this year was "Luna," the city's Animal Care and Control agency announced. "Luna" was the most popular for both cats and dogs in 2022.
The city also said its animal welfare division "shattered its record" for animal adoptions in a calendar year.
About 11,000 dog and cat licenses were opened in 2022 in Minneapolis. These were the most popular, according to city data:

There were 840 pets adopted this year, the city said:
- 475 cats
- 340 dogs
- 14 birds
- 11 other animals
A total of 549 animals were transferred to rescue groups:
- 244 cats
- 231 dogs
- 17 birds
- 57 other animals
Animal Care and Control's 840 animal adoptions in 2022 was a 14 percent increase over 2019, the last time the record was broken.
