Medical Complications May Have Caused Deadly Crash In MPLS: Cops

Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured in a three-car crash on Hiawatha Avenue Thursday evening.

MINNEAPOLIS — Two people are dead and two others were seriously injured after a three-car crash in Minneapolis Thursday evening, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

At about 5:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of a rash at East 26th Street and Hiawatha Avenue.

A Mercedes was traveling southbound on Hiawatha Avenue "at a high rate of speed" when it crossed the median and hit a Ford Mustang and another vehicle of an "unknown make and model," police said.

The drivers of the Mercedes and the Mustang sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center.

The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were also transported to HCMC by EMS, but both were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Preliminary information indicates the driver of the Mercedes may have suffered medical complications before the crash. MPD is investigating, and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to assist with crash reconstruction. Forensic scientists from the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division responded to process the scene and collect evidence.
