Minneapolis Council Member Carjacked
Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman said he was carjacked Monday night.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman said he was carjacked Monday night while parked near Portland Avenue and Lake Street but is safe and unharmed.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. as Osman was making a call to his sister, according to a statement he released later that evening.
"Thankfully, I am safe and unharmed," Osman said, thanking Minneapolis police, Chief Brian O’Hara, and Mayor Jacob Frey for responding quickly and checking in with him after the incident.

Police believe the same suspects, described as two youth, also carjacked another victim and their child earlier in the evening.
Osman said his heart goes out to them, noting that "no one should have to experience this kind of trauma in our city."

Osman said he’s now home in the Phillips West neighborhood with his family. "This incident is another reminder of the work ahead to keep all of our communities safe," he said.
Osman, who represents Ward 6, won re-election on Nov. 4 with 58.8 percent of the vote over challenger Mohamoud Hassan.
