Minneapolis Resident Should Water Trees, City Says
Tree watering is allowed under the current citywide sprinkler restrictions. Residents should water them with a slow-dripping hose.
MINNEAPOLIS — The city of Minneapolis is asking residents to water their boulevard trees during the serious drought conditions that continue to plague the region. In order to survive, the city's boulevard trees need an inch of water once a week during the summer and fall months.
"Lack of water can make trees vulnerable to insects and disease and cause permanent damage to young and old trees alike," the city said in a news release Wednesday.
"Trees up to five years old are especially susceptible. The Park Board plants and mulches boulevard trees but relies on residents or businesses nearby to water them."
