MN Gas Prices: Where Is The Cheapest, Most Expensive Fuel?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine could drive energy prices to new heights. See where gas is cheapest and most expensive right now.

MINNESOTA — As fears of global conflict mount, and oil prices climb higher, gas is getting more expensive around Minnesota. And there's no relief in sight.

The average gallon of gas is now $3.43 in Minnesota, according to travel organization AAA. St. Louis County in northern Minnesota currently has the cheapest gas prices in Minnesota, based on AAA estimates, at $3.27 per gallon.

Scott County has the most expensive gas prices at $3.54 per gallon.

While gas seems expensive now, prices are likely to climb even more swiftly at the pumps.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine — and the U.S.'s response to that aggression — will likely lead to further inflation and more expensive gas domestically. With gas prices expected to continue their swift ascent, President Joe Biden said Thursday he would do "everything" in his power to limit "pain at the pump."

Minnesota remains well below the national average for fuel costs, which now sit at 3.57 per gallon. But prices continue to rise locally.

Oil and natural prices have already surged over concerns that Russia — an energy production behemoth — will slow the flow of oil and natural gas to Europe.

"Russia is one of the leading oil producers globally, behind only the United States and Saudi Arabia," said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. "And if they choose to withhold their oil from the global market, such a move would eventually be reflected in higher gas prices for American drivers."
