New Date Set For State Trial In George Floyd's Death

Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd's death.

MINNEAPOLIS — The state trial of the three former Minneapolis police officers charged in George Floyd's death has been rescheduled to June 13. The trial was initially scheduled for March 7.

Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng all face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Both the prosecutors and defense attorneys in the case asked to have the state trial delayed until the federal trial against the three officers wraps up. The federal trial begins Friday in downtown St. Paul

The three officers face federal civil rights charges in Floyd's death.

The state trial will be broadcasted live, but the federal trial will not.

Former officer Derek Chauvin is serving out a prison sentence of 22 years and six months for the murder of Floyd after he was convicted in state court last year.

In December, Chauvin agree to a plea deal in the federal charges against him. A sentencing date has not yet been determined.
