New Hulu Series 'Unprisoned' Is Based In Southwest Minneapolis
Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo star in "Unprisoned," a show about a complicated mother-father relationship set near Lake Harriet.

MINNEAPOLIS — Hulu's newest series is based on the true story of the show's creator, Minnesota native Tracy McMillan, and her father's struggle to move forward with life after a long prison sentence.
The show features two accomplished stars, Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo. It also happens to be set in southwest Minneapolis, specifically the upscale area around Lake Harriet.
Washington plays Paige Alexander, a relationship therapist and single mom with a Type A personality. Paige is forced to navigate the rocky relationship with her father Edwin (Lindo) after he returns home from federal prison.

"I wanted to show a family that every person in America would identify with, even though they’re facing very specific circumstances," McMillan told Variety.
"This is at its heart, a father-daughter story. It’s a story about a woman with a teenage son who’s trying to repair the relationship with her dad and everyone can relate to that."
