Plan To Replace MPLS Police Dept. Was Popular In These 4 Wards
The plan to replace the Minneapolis Police Department failed last week, but it did receive strong support in four of the city's 13 wards.

MINNEAPOLIS — The proposal to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a new "Department of Public Safety" was soundly defeated by residents on Election Day, with 80,506 "No" votes to 62,813 "Yes" votes.
However, the measure was popular in Wards 2, 8, 9, and 10.
- Ward 2 encompasses the University of Minnesota campus and surrounding area, including Dinkytown.
- Wards 8 and 9 include the neighborhoods around 38th Street and Chicago, where George Floyd was killed by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.
- Ward 10 is home to the Uptown neighborhood and shopping district.
The measure was least popular in the far south and southwest portions of Minneapolis.
