Rep. Omar Secures $24 Million In Federal Funds For 15 Local Projects

The funding was included in the final U.S. House-passed 2023 appropriations government funding package.

MINNEAPOLIS — Rep. Ilhan Omar Friday announced that more than $24 million in federal funding was secured for projects in her district, which covers Minneapolis and its suburbs.

The funding was included in the final U.S. House-passed 2023 appropriations government funding package.

Following passage in the U.S. Senate, the bill will now go to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed.

"I am proud to have secured over $24 million in Community Project Funding that I know meets long overdue community needs in Minnesota’s 5th District and builds on our previous success delivering $17 million to the district," Omar said in a statement.

"These include investments in housing, healthcare, food access, the environment and community space."

Omar's office released the following details on the 15 projects that will receive federal funding:

  • $3,000,000 for the Avenues for Youth Housing and Headquarters
  • $600,000 for Roots Community Birth Center improvement
  • $1,000,000 for the Cedar Riverside People's Center, Minneapolis, MN for facilities and equipment
  • $2,856,224 for Establishing Safe Refuge for South-Asian Diasporic Communities in Minnesota
  • $514,000 for the Low Income Housing Improvements for Persons with Disabilities in Minneapolis, Golden Valley, and St. Anthony
  • $3,000,000 for the Multifamily Land Trust for Affordable Housing
  • $1,000,000 for the Native American Community Clinic, Minneapolis, MN for facilities and equipment
  • $1,000,000 for the New Facility for Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA)
  • $1,000,000 for the Northside Food Access and Distribution Project
  • $750,000 for the Northside Youth Greenhouse
  • $3,000,000 for Perspectives Inc., St. Louis Park, MN for facilities and equipment
  • $750,000 for the Renovation of Snelling Motel to Affordable Housing for Veterans
  • $2,500,000 for the Simpson Community Shelter and Apartments
  • $750,000 for the Southside Village Boys Girls Club Expansion
  • $3,000,000 for the Wood Lake Nature Center Building Project
