Semi Wrecked In Lowry Tunnel Crash, Complete I-94 Shut Down

The semi apparently tipped over inside the tunnel and spilled cargo, prompting a full highway closure and major delays in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A semi-truck crash inside the Lowry Hill Tunnel Friday morning forced the shutdown of both directions of Interstate 94 between Interstate 394 and Interstate 35W, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Traffic cameras show the semi on its side in the eastbound lanes, with its cargo, which appears to include large debris or industrial materials, scattered across the tunnel floor. The crash may have also caused significant damage to a tunnel wall.

Emergency crews responded shortly before 11 a.m., and both eastbound and westbound lanes remain closed as of late Friday morning. The closure is expected to last at least four hours.
