MINNEAPOLIS — The family of Sophia Forchas, a student critically injured in the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting, is pleading for urgent prayers as she faces what doctors have called her "most crucial" day of recovery.

"Thank you for all the love and support. Sophia is still in critical condition. Her mom is the head of PICU. They had to remove one side of her skull," the family’s update read.

"Today is day 5, which is most crucial to keep the swelling down. If they can't, they have to remove the other side of her skull. She would still survive, but they're not sure what her quality of life would be."

"Sophia's dad said we can share her name far and wide and they need everyone praying," the message said.

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar amplified the request, writing, "Sophia’s family is asking for us to pray for her and Lydia’s speedy recovery. Please pray for them and all the victims of Annunciation Church."

The update also noted that another victim, Lydia Kaiser, the eighth-grade daughter of the school’s gym teacher, "is in ICU at children's, but she is in the right direction. Everyone else is now out of intensive care."

On Thursday, Lydia Kaiser’s parents recounted how they pleaded with Vice President JD Vance during his Minneapolis visit to take action on gun violence.
