Vaccine Mandates In Minneapolis, St. Paul Could End This Week: Report

Since Jan. 19, both cities have required customers of bars and restaurants to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result.

MINNEAPOLIS — Officials in St. Paul and in Minneapolis are reportedly preparing to end their COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Since Jan. 19, both cities have required customers of bars, restaurants, and venues where food is served to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter "is hopeful that he will be able to lift the order this week," city spokesman Kamal Baker told the Star Tribune Tuesday.

Across the river, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is preparing to do the same after reviewing the most recent data.

The plans to end the mandates come as hospitalizations — which overwhelmed healthcare facilities statewide in December and January — are down significantly.

There are currently no plans to repeal the mask mandates that are in effect in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
