Walz Infrastructure Plan Spends $470 Million To Fight Homelessness
Gov. Tim Walz announced his infrastructure plan Thursday, which spends $3.3 billion on roads, water systems, housing, and the environment.

ST. PAUL, MN — In announcing his $3.3 billion 2023 infrastructure plan Thursday, Gov. Tim Walz released his plan for the state to spend $470 million to reduce homelessness in Minnesota.
The money would go to "safe and affordable housing projects," including $250 million for housing infrastructure bonds intended to address the shortage of affordable housing units across the state.
Funding would also be spent repairing existing homeless shelters.

"The investments in our Infrastructure Plan are a down payment on the future of our state," said Walz said in a news release.
"Strong infrastructure is what allows Minnesotans to live safe and healthy lives. It’s what keeps our drinking water clean, our roads and bridges safe to drive on, and our communities safe from flooding. The investments in our 2023 Infrastructure Plan will support the economic vitality of our communities, while creating thousands of good-paying jobs."

Walz's infrastructure plan also includes spending on $200 million focus on equity projects, $312 million on environmental projects, and $650 million on road, bridge, and water system projects.
Another $1.2 billion would be spent on asset preservation, including $260 million each to repair and replace buildings in the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State systems and $133 million for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to repair the buildings, roads, trails, public water accesses, bridges, and recreational facilities.
