Warrant Issued For Suspect In Deadly Shooting At White Castle

Police identified Lionell J. Hicks, 29, after a "thorough investigation" of the Aug. 15 shooting that killed Tu'Quan Lee Smith Sr.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis police are asking the public to help find a suspect wanted in the death of a man in the 100 block of West Lake Street earlier this month.

Police issued a warrant for second-degree murder for Lionell J. Hicks, 29. Hicks is believed to have been living in West St. Paul, police said. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911, and anyone with information on him should call CrimeStoppers of Minnesota.

On Aug. 15 at 1:55 a.m., police responded to a sound of shots fired call at White Castle. When they arrived, they located an adult male who had no pulse or respiration and was suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

Officers began CPR and wound management, but paramedics pronounced him deceased when they arrived on-scene, police said.

The victim was later identified as Tu'Quan Lee Smith Sr., 32, of Woodbury.

The warrant for Hicks was issued after an "in-depth and thorough investigation," police said. Fox9 reported that witnesses told investigators that Hicks shot into Smith's car from inside the car he was riding in after the two exchanged words as Smith was trying to get out of the White Castle drive-thru.
