Champions: Stillwater Baseball Team Dominates In Class AAAA Title Game

Stillwater took down Farmington 8-1 on Friday night at Target Field to claim its third state championship.

STILLWATER, MN — The Stillwater Area High School baseball team won the Class AAAA state championship with an impressive 8-1 win over top-seeded Farmington on Friday night at Target Field.

The Ponies were behind 1-0 after the first inning, but scored twice in each of the next two innings to take a commanding lead, according to statistics from the Minnesota High School League.

Bats were quiet for both teams in the fourth and fifth innings before Stillwater’s offense burst into life again in the top of the six inning.

Mason Buck drove in two runs with a one-out single before he and his brother, Austin, both scored after two throwing errors by Farmington in the same phase of play, MSHSL statistics show.

Austin Buck was dominant on the mound for the Ponies, pitching a complete game while allowing just one earned run and four hits, MSHSL statistics show. He also registered four strikeouts.

Austin Buck, Mason Buck, Mason McCurdy, Brayden Hellum and Joshua Wallace were all named to the All-Tournament Team, according to Stillwater Baseball’s Twitter account.

The 8-1 win over Farmington gave Stillwater its second state title in baseball in five seasons and its third overall. The Ponies were also baseball state champions in 2018 and 1991.
