STILLWATER, MN — The Dock Cafe threw open its doors in Stillwater on Thursday for the first time in more than two years after the restaurant was forced to close at the start of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Dock is under new ownership, with John Koch — the owner of Gio’s and Portside in downtown Stillwater — now running the restaurant, the Pioneer Press reported.

The restaurant had a “surprise” soft opening over the weekend, with a limited menu and patio seating only “in an effort to not overwhelm our staff,” according to a post on The Dock’s new Facebook page.

The soft opening appears to have been a major success, with Dock leaders on Monday thanking those who returned to the highly popular restaurant after two years away.

“We are beyond words and cannot express our gratitude enough to those who came out and supported us during our soft opening,” the restaurant posted Monday on Facebook.

“Your feedback is incredibly important to us, and we value your input so we can adjust to be your favorite spot to dine time and time again,” the post reads.

The Dock is set to be closed from Monday-Wednesday “for staff training and to allow us to recoup from this weekend.”

The restaurant will reopen Thursday with its full menu, according to the post.

Despite being closed for the past two years, the Dock was recently named as having one of the best patios in the Twin Cities.

The restaurant’s patio “on the water’s edge” offers diners views of the St. Croix River, the Lift Bridge and the valley, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press wrote in its 2022 al fresco dining guide.
