STILLWATER, MN — Washington County’s plans to close Highway 36 in Stillwater were pushed back a week due to “cold and wet weather” in recent days, officials said April 19.

The county initially planned to close Highway 36 from 7 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday so crews could pour concrete on the bridge that will allow Manning Avenue to cross Highway 36, with additional closures planned the following two weekends.

That concrete work is being delayed for a week, so it can be combined with a project to install storm sewer pipes along the highway, officials said.

Crews from the Minnesota Department of Transportation are set to start work this month on Highway 36 between Stillwater and Little Canada.

The highway is set to be resurfaced from Greeley Street in Stillwater to Edgerton Street in Little Canada, while crews will also upgrade pedestrian accessibility in some locations and update drainage, according to the department.

The project, which is scheduled to start Monday and be completed by the fall, is meant to improve pavement condition and ride quality along that corridor of Highway 36, officials said.
