Mask Mandate Ends At Washington County Courthouse, Offices

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Masks are no longer required in the Washington County courthouse, offices and most other public buildings.

Officials lifted a mask mandate Monday for employees and visitors in Washington County buildings after many other agencies and governments throughout the Twin Cities metro moved to end their masking requirements.

Washington County Administrator Kevin Corbid also cited a decline in COVID-19 cases throughout the county in an email to staff last week about the mandate being lifted. He also noted that more than 83 percent of the county’s employees are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

"We support and respect an individual's choice to continue wearing (a mask)," Corbid said.

Masks are still required within the Washington County Jail in Stillwater and some clinic settings.

Washington County officials will continue to monitor COVID-19 metrics and "adjust our guidance if appropriate," Corbid said.

Though the county is lifting its mask mandate, Corbid emphasized to employees that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "continues to recommend masks be worn indoors in public areas."

CDC statistics show there is a high level of community transmission of the coronavirus in Washington County, though new cases are down more than 33 percent over the past week.

There have been more than 65,800 total COVID-19 cases among Washington County residents since the start of the coronavirus pandemic almost two years ago, and 467 residents have died from coronavirus-related conditions, according to the CDC.
