Stillwater Baseball Team Advances To State Semifinals Wednesday

STILLWATER, MN — The Stillwater Area High School baseball team will continue its hunt for a state title Wednesday afternoon after taking down Sartell in the Class 4A state quarterfinal game.

Stillwater edged Sartell 6-5 on Tuesday to earn a spot in the semifinal game against Chanhassen, which starts at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at CHS Field in St. Paul.

Sartell got off to a strong start Tuesday, putting six of their first seven batters on base and scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, according to the Minnesota State High School League.

Stillwater immediately replied, scoring all six of its runs in the first inning, which lasted 42 minutes, the MSHSL said. Mason McCurdy and Jacob Carlson hit RBI singles before Joshua Wallace drove in three runs on a bases-loaded hit, according to the game report.

Wallace earned the win as pitcher for the Ponies, while Brayden Hellum retired Sartell’s final five batters to earn the save, the MSHSL said.

Stillwater will face Chanhassen High School in the Class 4A semifinal game after Chanhassen beat Andover 14-0 on Tuesday.

The winner of Stillwater-Chanhassen will face Farmington or Maple Grove in the state final, scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Target Field.
