Stillwater Resident Moves Lucky Guys Distillery To Hudson
Guy Whitehead said he intends to "make some of the best spirits in Western Wisconsin made with real Wisconsin grains" in the coming months.

STILLWATER, MN — Stillwater resident Guy Whitehead is set to throw open the doors Tuesday to his new Lucky Guys Distillery across the river in Wisconsin.
After operating for several years in Oakdale, Whitehead is moving the distillery to Hudson, where he’ll be serving up vodkas, gins, whiskeys and bourbons.
The new — and larger — distillery will allow Lucky Guys to produce about 600 gallons of distillate each month, much more than it could in Oakdale, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports.

Whitehead credits his grandfather, Daryl “Efficiency Thompson,” as his “earliest and greatest hero” and the inspiration behind opening a distillery.
“To him, a cocktail was a way to slow down in a busy world, to connect with a loved one, a friend or a soon-to-be friend,” Whitehead wrote on the Lucky Guys Distillery website.

Thompson, who enjoyed a drink every day at 5 p.m. “like clockwork,” passed down his “kindness, wisdom and passion to me,” Whitehead wrote.
“I’m excited to share these virtues through every sip of Lucky Guys vodka, gin, whiskey or bourbon,” Whitehead wrote. “I hope you’ll be with me along the journey. Don’t be afraid to stop by and say hello. As I learned from my grandfather, there will always be time for a cocktail.”
Construction on the new facility started last summer, and Whitehead has been welcoming in customers since mid-March for the distillery’s soft opening.

Whitehead said he was overwhelmed by “the welcome,” “the kindness” and “the excitement” that hundreds of customers showed him during the soft-open launch.
Lucky Guys Distillery, located at 101 Second St. in Hudson, Wisconsin, is due to open to the public Tuesday.
Connoisseurs can drop in for a drink in the distillery’s 100-person tasting room or pick up full-size bottles to take home, thanks to Wisconsin’s less-stringent liquor laws, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports.
The distillery is expected to start offering tours in May, which Whitehead said would allow him “to get my equipment dialed in, so we can show you all what’s what.” Ten-person tours are tentatively scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Whitehead said.
