Stillwater Swimming Coach Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

STILLWATER, MN — Stillwater Area High School swimming coach Brian Luke was recently inducted into the Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame for his decades of success with the school’s girls and boys teams.

Luke will be honored at the MSHSL’s Hall of Fame Induction Banquet in April alongside former Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer and 10 others.

Stillwater’s swimming and diving teams “have displayed gold-medal excellence” under Luke, who took over the program in the 1970s. Over the past 40-plus years, Luke has coached his teams to more than 720 total wins, according to the MSHSL.

The girls team has won 11 state championships and seven “True-Team” titles under Luke, while the boys team has earned nearly two dozen conference titles and multiple individual state championships.

Luke has coached 365 All-State swimmers, 185 All-Americans and 119 academic All-Americans in his career. He has been named Minnesota’s swimming coach of the year five times, according to the MSHSL.

Stillwater City Administrator To Retire Next Spring

Luke, a native of Hopkins, is the fifth Stillwater coach to earn a spot in the MSHSL Hall of Fame, following in the footsteps of Len McGuire, James Graupner, Bill Simpson and George Thole, the Stillwater Gazette reported.

Luke is also in the Minnesota State High School Swimming & Diving Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2012.
