Twin Cities Matricide Suspect Arrested After 'Extensive' Manhunt

A resident Tuesday noticed a person matching the description of Trevor Wunderlich​ in their yard and called 911, authorities said.

HUGO, MN — A man suspected of matricide is in custody after an "extensive" manhunt in rural Washington County, the local sheriff's office said.

Law enforcement agencies from across the metro area assisted in the manhunt for 45-year-old Trevor Joseph Wunderlich. The search began Monday and lasted until late Tuesday morning.

Just before 11 a.m., a resident on the 9800 block of 152nd Street North noticed a person matching the description of Trevor Wunderlich in their yard and called 911.

Deputies arrested Trevor Wunderlich without incident. He is in custody at the Washington County Jail pending formal charges.

At about 5:55 p.m. on Monday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a home on the 15900 block of Ingersoll Avenue North after receiving an open-line 911 call.

Telecommunicators heard a woman "moaning" and a male voice shouting in the background, investigators said.

Deputies arrived at the scene and heard a struggle inside the house. There, they found Trevor Wunderlich leaning over his mother, 68-year-old Charlene Wunderlich, according to authorities.

Charlene Wunderlich was badly bruised and groaning in pain. Deputies tried to subdue the suspect with a taser, but he broke free and fled from the residence, investigators said.

Charlene Wunderlich was treated but later died at the hospital.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office thanked "all the partnering law enforcement agencies and the public for their support and assistance in this case."
