ST. PAUL, MN — A Bayport man has been sentenced to 68 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for assaulting a mail carrier, U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger announced Thursday.

Kevin Demetri Blocker, 27, pleaded guilty in May to one count of assaulting a federal employee.

On Oct. 26, 2018, a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was walking across a St. Paul street to deliver mail. Blocker — while driving a Nissan Altima — approached the intersection at speed and had to brake quickly to allow the mail carrier to continue crossing the street, according to authorities.

The mail carrier shouted at Blocker that he needed to yield. Blocker parked his Altima, got out, and punched the mail carrier in the face.

The mail carrier fell to the ground and hit his head on the concrete. He was taken to the hospital and needed 12 stitches to close a wound on the back of his head, authorities said.
