WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN β€” Three of the 100 worst greenhouse gas polluters in Minnesota are located in the Woodbury area, according to a new report.

The report ranked Xcel Energy’s Allen S. King coal-fired power plant in Bayport as the fourth-worst greenhouse gas polluter in Minnesota.

State statutes require Minnesota to its reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2025, based on 2005 levels.

The King coal-fired plant is due to close in 2028, with Xcel planning to replace the more than 500 megawatts of power it generates with wind and solar power, StCroix360.com reported.
