From the Washington County Historical Society:
The Washington County Historical Society recently received a donation of a quilt that was made by the Cottage Grove Quilters for the raffle at the Cottage Grove Strawberry Festival in 1983.
The quilt was won by Linda Bergan who remembers that on a quick trip to the store she saw “some ladies were selling tickets for a quilt celebrating Cottage Grove’s Strawberry Festival.” The tickets were three for a dollar and was “quite surprised” when she learned that she had won the quilt.

Bergan and her husband moved away from Cottage Grove in the late 1980s and after awhile the quilt went into storage and was not being displayed. Now, with some downsizing she has donated the 30 year old quilt to the Washington County Historical Society.
“The city of Cottage Grove has a bright future and a great deal of history!” said Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey, “Part of this history was the fields of strawberries that dotted our community in the early days of Cottage Grove.”
