New East Metro Tea Party Group Plans Next Event

Press release

The brand new East Metro Tea Party held its launch party on Thursday, April 4, at the Machine Shed in Lake Elmo, and it was a packed house, easily filling the 100-person capacity room.

Rep. Kathy Lohmer, who spoke at the event, was shocked by how many people attended the event on a week’s notice.

Rep. Jim Newberger, who has been an active member in a Tea Party in his home district, enthusiastically addressed the crowd about the gun debate at the Capitol and what it means to believe in liberty.

Towards the end of the program, Rep. Andrea Kieffer stopped by and gave the crowd an update on the Capitol.

One of the evening’s biggest hits was when Jack Rogers and Jake Duesenberg conducted their own version of a popular game show called “The Price is Right; 1913 edition” where contestants try to guess the price of a consumer product in 1913 dollars — adjusted for inflation.

Rep. Mary Franson was the first winner by guessing, within a penny, the value of a 2 lb box of baking soda. The purpose of the game was to find an entertaining method of educating the group about the Federal Reserve’s failure to maintain the strength of the U.S. dollar.

The organizers have decided to hold the next event on May 2 but will need a bigger room. They’ve already received calls from other local businesses hoping to bring the Tea Party to their location.
