Developments Approved, ‘Very Special Order’ of Business: Woodbury City Council

The council also approved plans for a new Chuck E. Cheese's on Wednesday, June 12.

As the Woodbury City Council approved plans for a development near Liberty Ridge Elementary School, two items came up as part of a broader discussion of development in the city.

First, Councilwoman Amy Scoggins wanted developers of the Liberty Ridge addition to make “very clear” in their marketing materials that families who buy homes there will not be able to send their children to the nearby school, which is just west of the site of the development.

Liberty Ridge Elementary is in District 833, while the new development—where 21 single-family homes are slated on 5 acres—is in the Stillwater school district.

Community Development Director Dwight Picha said South Washington County Schools has no plans to absorb that area into its boundaries.

Meanwhile, Liberty Ridge had its original plans approved in 2003, and Councilman Paul Rebholz said the city should consider reviewing old planned-unit developments the council previously allowed.

Jessup Honored

Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens added a “very special order” of business to the agenda Wednesday night.

June 18, 2013, will be David Jessup Day in Woodbury to honor the longtime Public Works director, who is retiring June 20.

The mayor gave Jessup a hug and a plaque for his 28 years of service to the city.

In the open forum portion of the meeting, Planning Commission member Bill Betten also lauded Jessup for his “vision and guidance” over the years.

“It’s been a great ride and we wish you the best in the future,” Betten said.

City Administrator Review

Council members at a previous meeting adjourned to a closed session for a review of City Administrator Clint Gridley.

City Attorney Mark Vierling on Wednesday provided an update of the review, which he said was “very positive.”
