Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. Nathan McGuire, Woodbury head girls basketball coach, has been placed on administrative leave, according to the <a href="http://www.woodburybulletin.com/content/woodbury-girls-basketball-coach-nathan-mcguire-placed-administrative-leave" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Woodbury Bulletin</a>. McGuire was relieved from his coaching duties by the South Washington County School District because of an investigation into unnamed allegations, according to the report. "We cannot comment on the situation regarding Nathan McGuire," said South Washington County Schools Director of Communications Barbara Brown. "Upon hearing allegations, he was placed on paid administrative leave from his coaching responsibilities pending further investigation." According to the Woodbury Bulletin, Woodbury registered a 19-10 record under McGuire, and reached the Section 4AAA championship in 2013. The last game McGuire coached was on Jan. 3 at East Ridge, according to the Woodbury Bulletin. The Royals are 0-5 in McGuire's absence and 5-9 overall on the year.
