Have You Seen Coyotes in Woodbury?

Patch has received several reports of coyotes in town, and the city's Public Safety Department recently posted information on the animals on its Facebook page.

Coyotes are often spotted in Woodbury.

The Public Safety Department on Monday, May 13, reported on its Facebook page that it receives numerous calls from residents about coyotes, and people often contact Patch after seeing them.

“Unfortunately, there is not a lot an officer can do unless there is an imminent concern for safety,” reads the notice from the Public Safety Department.

City officials provided a number of dos and don’ts regarding coyotes, and provided a link to information from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Do
  • Secure all garbage containers, wildlife feeders, and other food sources to prevent coyote access.
  • Confine small dogs and cats in kennels, or supervise them when outside.
  • Vaccinate all pets for rabies, distemper, parvo, and other diseases, as recommended by a veterinarian.
  • Consider installing coyote-proof fencing.
Don’t
  • Feed coyotes.
  • Leave pet food outside
  • Allow cats and small dogs outside unattended.
