Man Sentenced for Meth Possession in Woodbury

A man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after Woodbury police arrested him last year and found more than 15 grams of methamphetamine in his car.
William Kirk Alexander, 43, who has no permanent address, pleaded guilty Dec. 9 to felony second-degree drug possession and was sentenced to 50 months in prison, with credit for 175 days already served.
According to the criminal complaint, a Woodbury police officer spotted a car driven by Alexander in the vicinity of Woodhill Drive and Valley Creek Road just after 3 p.m. March 6, 2012.

The officer recognized the driver as Alexander, who had a revoked driver’s license. The officer pulled over the car and confirmed Alexander’s identity.
Another officer and his K-9 partner searched Alexander’s car, and the dog alerted the officer to the presence of drugs. Police obtained a search warrant and found a black pouch containing a meth pipe and a plastic bag containing 15.4 grams of methamphetamine behind the car’s exterior body panel above the driver’s side taillight.

Alexander initially told police that there were no drugs in the car. After the search warrant was executed, he admitted that the methamphetamine found by officers was his.
Alexander’s criminal record includes a felony conviction for fifth-degree drug possession in 2007.
