Technology Firm Moves to Woodbury

Computerized adaptive testing. Psychometrics.

Just a couple of the items being worked on at Assessment Systems Corp, which moved its offices from St. Paul to Woodbury late last year.

The software company, founded by a University of Minnesota professor, works with groups and businesses to improve testing procedures, said Nate Thompson, Ph.D., a part owner who lives in Woodbury.

For example, Assessment Systems Corp will work with an organization to tailor its tests to get the data it’s looking for—determining which questions yield the most valid results.

“Positive discrimination,” Thompson said.

The company was founded in 1979 by U of M professor David Weiss, who invented “adaptive testing,” Thompson said.

Assessment Systems Corp’s clients include Project Lead the Way and the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security.

Of late, the company has been looking to get into the education field for standardized testing.

Assessment Systems Corp has 10 employees; it’s located in the business park at Hudson Road and Century Avenue.
