WOODBURY, MN — A Woodbury woman facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of her 5-year-old daughter was ruled incompetent to stand trial last week by a Washington County judge, according to a report.

Sadiyo Mohamed, 32, is accused of attacking her daughter and 6-year-old son in the street in May. Woodbury police were called at about 12:45 a.m. May 26 by neighbors who said they saw Mohamed chasing her son on the 400 block of Lake View Alcove, according to a criminal complaint against Mohamed.

After arresting Mohamed, officers heard several people yelling about a “dead baby in the street” and found Mohamed’s 5-year-old daughter bleeding from her head with a shallow pulse, police said in the criminal complaint. The girl and her brother were taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.

She died June 16 after being taken off life support, according to the criminal complaint against Mohamed.

Washington County Judge Richard Ilkka last week ordered Mohamed to be committed for six months and said her trial will be “indeterminably suspended” until she is competent to stand trial, the Star Tribune reports.

Mohamed has been civilly committed several times in the past decade to receive treatment for mental illness, the report states.

Woodbury police said Mohamed told them when she was arrested in May that she suffers from mental illness and was not taking her medication for several months, the complaint states.
