Woodbury Native To Sign New Contract With MN United: Report

Defender Brent Kallman has spent all but one year of his career with Minnesota United since signing his first professional contract in 2013.

WOODBURY, MN β€” Woodbury native Brent Kallman's career with Minnesota United is set to continue for at least two more seasons, according to a report.

Kallman β€”a defender who has spent all but one year of his career with Minnesota United since signing his first professional contract in 2013 β€” is Minnesota United’s longest-serving player.

He will keep that title after agreeing in principle to a new contract through the 2023 season, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports. The contract has not yet been signed, according to the report.

The former Woodbury High School star athlete has played 87 times for the Loons since the club joined Major League Soccer in 2017, according to statistics from the MLS.

Kallman, 31, has scored four goals in his MLS career, with half of them coming last season.

He also made 42 appearances for Minnesota United during its stint in the North American Soccer League from 2013-16.

After three seasons in the MLS with Minnesota United, Kallman was loaned out in 2020 to El Paso Locomotive FC in the North American Soccer League after a difficult end to the 2019 season.

Kallman was suspended for 10 games and fined 20 percent of his salary in September 2019 after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

He returned to the Loons for the 2021 season and managed 20 appearances despite being used mostly as a backup for starting defenders Michael Boxall and Bakaye Dibassy, the Pioneer Press reports.

Kallman played soccer, tennis, basketball and football during his time at Woodbury High School and earned many honors before continuing his soccer career at Creighton University.
