Woodbury Outstanding Senior Volunteer Honored at 2013 Washington County Fair

Linda Simkins, of Woodbury, and Rob Rafferty, of Stillwater, were named Washington County Fair's Outstanding Senior Volunteers at during a ceremony held on Friday, Aug. 2.  

Simkins has been active in her church as well as with Meals on Wheels, the St. Croix Valley Bloodmobile, Second Harvest Foodshelf, Lutheran World Relief and Harriet Tubman Family Violence organization.

Rafferty, meanwhile, has spent more than 20 years helping and advocating for those with mental illness and their families. In nominating their longtime friend, siblings Margot and John Rheinberger incorporated statements made by eight people familiar with Rafferty's countywide 24/7 level of volunteerism.  

“By all accounts, he has made a world of difference in the lives of individuals too often shunned by others,” said the Rheinbergers.
