Jeremy Dixon Named EMCC’s Outstanding Culinary Student of the Year
At 31 years old, Jeremy has already built an impressive career with Sodexo—and he's just getting started

In the fast-paced world of foodservice, it’s rare to find someone who brings equal parts passion, leadership, and heart to the table. But that’s exactly what you get with Jeremy Dixon, a shining star at East Mississippi Community College who has just been named Outstanding Culinary Student of the Year. At 31 years old, Jeremy has already built an impressive career with Sodexo—and he’s just getting started.
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, and now residing in Macon, Mississippi, Jeremy is a 2012 graduate of Noxubee County High School. His journey with Sodexo began in 2014, when he took a student worker position while pursuing a degree in computer science. From prepping ingredients and working the dishroom to serving guests and manning the Scooba Grill retail location, Jeremy quickly proved that he had the skills—and the drive—to thrive in foodservice.
It wasn’t long before Chef Paul, the campus executive chef, recognized Jeremy’s natural culinary talent and moved him into the kitchen to hone his skills. By 2019, Jeremy had risen to the role of supervisor, a position he continues to hold with pride and excellence.

He’s also quick to share the unique joy of life behind the scenes in the kitchen:
“The energy in the kitchen—it’s chaotic, but there’s this creative rhythm to it,” he says. “Everyone’s focused: knives chopping, pans sizzling… and somehow, in the middle of all that, you’re learning and creating something beautiful.”
Today, Jeremy is attending EMCC’s Lion Hills Culinary School under the Presidential Scholarship, with additional scholarship support from Sodexo. His instructors have taken note of his drive, leadership, and passion.
“Working with Jeremy has been an inspiring experience,” says Chef Jakiero Dismuke, Program Director of the Lion Hills Hospitality Program. “His strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and natural leadership have stood out in every class and kitchen lab. He’s consistently gone above and beyond—supporting classmates, taking initiative, and embracing every challenge with professionalism. Students like him remind us what’s possible when passion meets purpose. It’s truly powerful to witness a student who not only sharpens his own craft but also uplifts those around him, setting a strong example of what it means to elevate your craft.”
The leadership at East Mississippi Community College also recognizes the importance of investing in students like Jeremy.
“Jeremy Dixon exemplifies the very best of what we hope to foster at East Mississippi Community College—talent, determination, and a spirit of service,” says Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, President of EMCC. “His recognition as Outstanding Culinary Student of the Year is a proud moment for our institution, and we are thrilled that the Presidential Scholarship helped open the door to his success. Supporting students like Jeremy is at the heart of our mission, and we look forward to all he will continue to achieve.”
With this award-winning recognition now added to his resume, Jeremy is excited about the road ahead.
“I’m most looking forward to applying what I’ve learned in a real-world setting—taking all the theory and turning it into something that actually makes a difference. Whether it’s solving complex problems, collaborating with passionate people, or just growing into a role where I can contribute meaningfully, that next step is really exciting.”
Those who work with Jeremy are quick to sing his praises, including General Manager John Baker, who has watched Jeremy’s growth firsthand:
“Watching Jeremy evolve from a student worker to a respected leader in our kitchen has been one of the greatest highlights of my career. His dedication, creativity, and work ethic set an example for our entire team. We couldn’t be prouder of him.”
As for his impact outside the kitchen, Marketing Manager Elizabeth Brunet adds:
“Jeremy is genuinely loved by our clients and guests. He brings fun, flair, and fantastic ideas to every event—whether it’s a theme night or a plated dinner, Jeremy knows how to make it special. His creativity and ability to elevate every experience make him an invaluable part of our team.”
Sodexo is proud to celebrate Jeremy Dixon—not only as an outstanding culinary student but as a leader, innovator, and rising star in the foodservice world. We can’t wait to see where his talent and passion take him next.
“Investing in employee development is not just about enhancing skills; it's about building a foundation for future success,” said Sodexo District Manager Phoebe Cook. “We strive to empower our team members like Jeremy to grow and excel, and hope to enrich their careers and strengthen the programs we deliver to our clients.
