Sodexo and EMCC Celebrate Nearly 60 Years of Partnership

Since 1965, Sodexo and East Mississippi Community College have maintained a steadfast partnership built on quality, innovation, dedication

Since 1965, Sodexo and East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) have maintained a steadfast partnership built on quality, innovation, and a shared dedication to campus life. For nearly six decades, Sodexo has served as the college’s food service provider, supporting not only daily operations but also the overall wellness and engagement of students, faculty, and staff.

"For many years, the partnership between EMCC and Sodexo has been a source of great fortune. Their dedication to providing quality services has significantly enriched our campus community, and we deeply value this enduring collaboration," says Lapari Morant, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Housing.

Founded in 1927 as Kemper County Agricultural High School, EMCC has grown into a leading institution of higher learning serving a six-county district in east central Mississippi. With campuses in Scooba, Golden Triangle, and Communiversity, the college offers a wide range of academic, career-technical, and workforce training programs. EMCC’s deep roots in the region, combined with a forward-thinking approach to education, have made it a pillar in both the community and the state.

"Our partnership with Sodexo has positively contributed to transforming student engagement on our commuter campus. The students are always excited to see what we have planned next. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a partner and make meaningful impact." LeAnn Alexander, Dean of Students, Golden Triangle Campus

Sodexo’s partnership with East Mississippi Community College extends far beyond the dining halls. In addition to daily dining operations across the college’s multiple campuses, Sodexo also proudly supports the college’s athletics program by managing concessions at sporting events. This added service allows EMCC Dining to be a part of the vibrant school spirit that fuels the Lions, on and off the field.

"Being part of the EMCC family since 2009 has been one of the greatest privileges of my career," says John Baker, General Manager of EMCC Dining. "This campus is truly special, and it’s an honor to support our students, faculty, and staff each day. I'm a Lion through and through, and I couldn't be prouder to serve an institution that feels like home."

In 2014, Sodexo launched its Mindful by Sodexo program nationally—a wellness initiative that now plays a vital role at EMCC. The program encourages healthy choices and lifestyle balance through nutrient-rich meals and accessible wellness education. Recent Faculty and Staff Lunch and Learn events have featured presentations by the campus dietitian and menus carefully crafted with Mindful guidelines in mind.

Chef Dwayne Brown, known for his flavor-forward menus and deep understanding of southern culinary traditions, brings heart and creativity to every plate. His team has recently implemented rotating menu features like “Now Boarding,” inspired by cuisines across the globe, which provide variety while also introducing new flavors and cultures through the dining program.

"EMCC Dining is more than just meals—we’re an extension of the student experience," says Elizabeth Brunet, Marketing Coordinator for EMCC Dining. “From themed food events to wellness-focused programming, we aim to create meaningful moments that bring our campus community together. Collaborating with the campus leaders at EMCC is truly a joy—they make it easy to turn great ideas into impactful events.”

Feedback-driven improvements have also helped shape the future of dining on campus. Recent satisfaction surveys have led to expanded menu variety, healthier snack options, and increased student engagement efforts, ensuring that EMCC Dining continues to meet the evolving needs of its community.

“We want to create a dining program that students feel connected to,” says Brunet. “That means listening, adapting, and showing up in ways that matter—whether that’s through the meals we serve or the events we host.”

As Sodexo and EMCC near their 60th year together, the partnership continues to grow stronger—rooted in tradition but always looking forward. With a legacy of service, innovation, and shared purpose, Sodexo is proud to be part of EMCC’s mission to improve lives through education, wellness, and community connection.

“As we celebrate an incredible 60 years of partnership, we at Sodexo want to express our heartfelt gratitude to East Mississippi Community College,” said Sodexo District Manager Phoebe Cook. “Their trust and collaboration have been instrumental in our journey, allowing us to grow and innovate over the decades. This enduring relationship reflects our shared values and commitment to excellence and serves as a strong foundation for future endeavors. We look forward to many more years of mutual success and collaboration, striving to change students' lives daily.”
