📰 News we're reading

• Columbus City officials seek community's help for economy increase in the city (wcbi.com) — Columbus officials are forming a new Economic Development Advisory Committee and want local business leaders to help shape how the city grows its tax base and attracts new businesses. The 10-member panel, plus the mayor and council members, will act as a think tank for boosting the 2% sales tax and marketing Columbus. Residents interested in serving are encouraged to contact City Hall soon.

• Improvements coming to community gym (wcbi.com) — Columbus officials are moving ahead with a new, storm-damage–driven roof for the East Columbus Gym, aiming to keep Ward 2 kids safe and active despite a months-long repair timeline. Roof work is also planned for the Farmer’s Market annex and, later, the Columbus Police Department, as bids go before the city council next week.

• How are new murals added to the Golden Triangle? (cdispatch.com) — New public art is brightening downtown Columbus, including a colorful crosswalk in Catfish Alley and a 2023 mural at Columbus Light and Water, all part of Main Street Columbus beautification efforts. Local leaders say murals boost foot traffic, support small businesses, and may soon be linked by a dedicated mural trail for visitors and residents to explore.
