• Southern Miss Awarded $2.1 Million U.S. Department of Education Grant (usm.edu) — Students at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg stand to benefit from a new five-year, $2.1 million U.S. Department of Education grant aimed at boosting degree completion. The funding will expand advising, faculty training, career guidance, data systems, and classroom technology, with campus leaders saying it will sharpen the university’s focus on student success from recruitment through graduation.
   

• Over 600 families receive Christmas gifts through ‘Toys For Tots' at Oseola McCarty Youth Development Center (wdam.com) — Hundreds of Hattiesburg families lined up at the Oseola McCarty Youth Development Center on Tuesday to receive Christmas gifts through the Toys for Tots program. With help from local partners like Hattiesburg’s Books-a-Million, more than 600 families were served, and the center is following up with a bike giveaway on Wednesday morning.
   

• Power producers ask FERC to reverse MISO's $280M capacity auction ‘adjustment' (utilitydive.com) — A Hattiesburg-based power cooperative is backing a challenge to how grid operator MISO is adjusting payments from its latest capacity auction, a change worth about $280 million. Independent power producers say the software-related “settlement adjustment” undermines investment decisions, while MISO insists it is following its tariff and has asked federal regulators to dismiss the complaints.
