First Friday of Lent, Busy Time For Arnold's Knights of Columbus

The Arnold fish fry is open from 11 a.m to 7 p.m.

On a good day the 6018, at 1623 Jeffco Boulevard, will sell 300 to 400 pounds of fried fish, eight ounces at a time, during Lent. It’s all fresh.

It’s one of the few frys around that opens for lunch, the group’s leader, Grand Knight Rich Cook, said. They go from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It wasn’t too busy around 1 p.m. today, but Cook said by 4:00 they should be lined up out the door. His chief concern is the weather. If it’s bad folks don’t want to wait in line outside.

β€œWhen people come to a fish fry they want to eat right now,” he said.

The workers (all volunteer) keep all four fryers in the kitchen busy cooking cod, jack salmon and catfish; and heating trays keep the food hot for the time between cooking and eating.

Dinners are $8.00, and include your choice of fish, two sides, a beverage and dessert. During Lent all proceeds go to charity, and Cook said it stays local. Sheltered workshops and food pantries are among those that benefit.

β€œRight now there’s a lot of people that need help,” he said. β€œSome (frys) are bigger, but we do a lot of good here.”
