NEWS RELEASE CONTACT: Douglas Jones, City Auditor, (816) 513-3300 The City Auditor’s Office is conducting a follow-up audit to assess implementation of recommendations from our 2019 GOkc Sidewalk Repair Program audit. Using General Obligation bonds approved by voters in April 2017, the city plans to expend a minimum of $150 million over 20 years to fund a program to repair and replace sidewalks and also install Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps. Our prior audit found gaps in the process to inspect sidewalks and enforce contract provisions meant to improve the quality and useful life of neighborhood sidewalks. Confirming the implementation of our prior recommendations helps ensure the program uses city funds efficiently and effectively. During the original audit, Public Works identified warranty inspections as an important contractual element to hold contractors accountable for sidewalk quality. A follow-up audit allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of this important program element. The objective of this audit is to determine whether Public Works improved inspection practices and observable outcomes of the GOkc Sidewalk Repair Program since our 2019 audit. View the audit Scope Statement online on our Recent Reports page. The scope statement is scheduled to be presented at the Council Business Session at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Did you know you can submit audit ideas to the city auditor?
