Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Holds 4/20 'Tweet-A-Long'
Cpl. J. Barden briefly stopped the "Tweet-a-long" to direct traffic.

CLAY COUNTY, MISSOURI — An intrepid deputy with the Clay County Sheriff's Department in north western Missouri has been holding a 4/20 Tweet-a-long today. April 20 is something of a national holiday for marijuana smokers across the country — in case you didn't know. Corporal J. Barden began at about 9 a.m. with a selfie and a warning that officers had just pulled over a driver who reeked of pot.

"Driver is going to jail, his car is getting towed," Barden announced a short time later, adding that police dog Blaze had arrived to provide backup.

At one point, the Department's Twitter account posted an apology for briefly suspending the Tweet-a-long. "The Tweeter was put to work directing traffic," the Department wrote.

If you were wondering, the weight of the drugs seized on our first car stop this morning was a felony amount. #CCSOTweetalong

"Thanks for following today's #CCOSTweetalong," Barden posted this afternoon. "Be safe!"
Some states, like Colorado, have increasing legalized small amounts of marijuana, but Missouri is not among them. Sixty-four percent of Americans favor legalizing the drug, and activists say current laws are applied disproportionately to African Americans, leading to racial disparities in America's criminal justice system.
